A small photography studio working between Bangkok and Chiang Mai, documenting the things we keep, and the way they change us.
01 / 09 Begin readingWe began this studio with a single, quiet conviction — that the camera, in the right hour, can be an act of attention rather than acquisition.
The most honest photographs
are not made.
They are waited for.
This volume gathers the work we returned to most often this year. Some of it was commissioned. Most of it was made simply because the light asked us to.
— Atelier Folio
Most of our work is shot on medium format film, in natural light, with no team. The subject and the studio: that is the entire crew. We believe the best frames arrive when nothing is rushed and everyone in the room can breathe.
We do not chase the perfect light. We arrive early, wait for it, and trust that it knows the way. — Studio philosophy
Three commissions from this year that captured something of how the studio thinks. Each is a small story about light, time, and care.

An interior study of late afternoon light, photographed across a single day in March.

A quiet portrait series for a slow-fashion campaign in Tokyo. Six artisans, photographed at work.
View series →A studio that has rediscovered what photography can do when it is allowed, simply, to wait.
There is a softness to Folio's work that feels almost out of step with our times — in the best possible sense.
Their still-life series for the Antwerp exhibition was, quite simply, the most quietly devastating room of the season.
Atelier Folio works the way the best small studios always have — with patience, with restraint, and with a careful eye on the door.
